Single in cerca di viaggi leggete "Sex and the singleton in the city"
Fast and furious, it’s fun and frivolous - speed dating, the latest match making craze has hit the streets of Norwich, writes Rachel Binns
In this world of fast living, fast food, fast money, fast love, hard work and little time for leisure, it was only a matter of time for the idea of speed dating to take off. If you are an avid fan of Sex and the City, you will remember the flame-haired Miranda going on a speed dating evening in New York. Fed up with the negative responses to "I'm a lawyer", she decides that pretending to be an air hostess would be much more enticing to the opposite sex - and she was right. She was inundated with offers. That episode made me laugh so much I decided I had to give this speed dating a try. So it was with a mixture of curiosity and a desire to meet some new people that I decided to bite the bullet and enter a brave new world. Fast fun Taking a single friend along for moral support, we headed for Norwegian Blue in Riverside and after introductions to the organisers, were given a name card, a table number, a pen and a dating card. The idea is simple: 20 men and 20 women spend an evening meeting each other in a bar, except there's a twist: the women are each allocated a table and are given only four minutes to talk to each man. After four minutes, a bell is rung and the men reluctantly or eagerly, depending on how well the 'date' has gone, move on to the next table and start the process all over again. In the meantime, you write down on your date card whether you'd like to date the person, meet them as friends or leave it blank if you wouldn't touch them with a barge pole. Now, fun this may be, but it is also utterly exhausting! You are given a drinks break every five dates and believe me, you need it. I liken it to having a party and having to constantly circulate. Tongue tied. Being a spontaneous kind of gal, I hadn't prepared any questions and although I didn't really need any, it's probably not a bad idea to have a few under your hat should you find yourself tongue-tied with some gorgeous totty. And gorgeous some of them definitely were. I have to admit that I was impressed with the turn out. Not only was there a plethora of men and women of all ages, they were also from diverse backgrounds. There were farmers, secretaries, accountants, lawyers, mechanics, and IT specialists, to name just a few.
